Great news! I have earned the endorsements of two prominent Colorado statesmen – former Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, and Governor John Hickenlooper.
I am grateful to have received such strong endorsements from two men I deeply respect. They both are recognized nationally as leaders for their vision and public service, and have been important partners of mine during the course of my public life. I look forward to taking to Congress the values and commitment to the people of Colorado on which the Governor, the Secretary and I are so closely aligned.
Ken Salazar was born in Alamosa, CO. He served as Chief Legal Counsel to Gov. Roy Romer, Director of the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, Colorado’s Attorney General and as a U.S. Senator from Colorado before becoming Secretary of the Interior. He served in this post from 2009-2013.
“I’m proud that my friend Gail Schwartz has stepped up to provide the type of independent leadership that Southern and Western Colorado deserves. Gail’s work in the San Luis Valley and for our rural communities has been transformative; she has worked to build new schools, protect our seniors, and take care of our veterans. Results matter and Gail has delivered. We can’t afford to let our rural communities suffer at the hands of Washington politicians that are solely concerned with keeping their jobs and doing the bidding of special interests,” said Ken Salazar.
A former geologist, Hickenlooper co-founded the Wynkoop Brewing Company in Downtown Denver, and was elected Mayor of Denver before being elected Governor of Colorado in 2010. He was re-elected as Governor in 2014. I served as the State Senator from Senate District 5 throughout Hickenlooper’s first term.
“I am happy to support Gail Schwartz for Congress in the 3rd Congressional District. During her time in the state legislature, I witnessed first-hand Gail’s endless energy, roll-up-your sleeves work ethic, and devotion to rural Coloradans. There is much frustration with today’s Congress – Coloradans want progress and solutions to our challenges, not just partisan squabbling. Gail’s commitment to getting results is exactly what we need in Washington to turn things around,” said Hickenlooper.
Thanks so much to Secretary Salazar and Governor Hickenlooper, but now, it’s time to get back to the campaign trail!
